The life of this "soon to be" breed legend came to an early end on May 18, 2020 after an injury while breeding in the pasture of one of his owners.
Aways a phenotypic favorite of visitors to ORIgen, this powerful and easy-fleshing sire with a phenomenal fertility level was the leading sales sire at ORIgen for 2018 and ranked Number 2 in 2019.
Produced by a dam whose first four natural calves recorded an average weaning ratio of 106, his grandam has five calves with an average weaning ratio of 113, and Southern Charm descends from a line of females with quality udder structure and a high level of fertility that have a slick hair coat, good feet, ease of fleshing, and fescue tolerance. The females that produced him are very efficient cattle.
As his Scrotal Circumference EPD predicts, Southern Charm collects and freezes extremely well and produces high quality semen that has yielded a far above average conception rate, and his sons have semen checked very well at 12 to 14 months.
Daughters of Southern Charm sold in 2019 are headlined by the $100,000 sale feature for Nowatzke Cattle in Indiana, an $80,000 heifer calf sold at 44 Farms in Texas and the $43,000 top-seller for Yon Family Farms in South Carolina.
A son of Southern Charm sold for $49,000 for Ken Haas in Wyoming where two more were the $14,000 and $12,000 second and third high-sellers, and another son sold for $35,000 as the top-selling bull in the 44 Farms 2019 Spring Bull Sale.
Among ORIgen sires in the Fall 2021 National Cattle Evaluation update, Number 7 Scrotal Circumference measure EPD
