LMR Shichiro 2403Z was Lone Mountain’s go-to Shigeshigetani herd sire prior to his sale to Imperial Beef. WKS Shigeshigetani is thought to be fundamentally a marbling sire - but LMR is finding him to be a growth sire as well. Shigeshigetani is Sanjirou’s half-brother, but more closely bred than most half-siblings: Suzutani is the mother of both Shigeshigetani and Sanjirou. Shigeshigetani’s sire is Haruki II, half-brother of Michifuku, and both were sired by the same bull, Monjiro 11550). Monjiro 11550 is linebred to Tajima J105, great-grandsire of Yasumi Doi J10328. The combination of those two sires (Shigeshigetani & Kitaguni Jr) bodes for extraordinary balance - both growth and marbling in one tightly bonded package.
2403Z’s dam sire, WKS Kitaguni Jr is a calving-ease leader - a BREEDPLAN trait leader for Birth Weight EBV (-2.7) ranking him just behind WKS Yasufuku Jr (-3.1) and Fukutsuru JVP068 (-3.0) – in addition to bringing Marbling to the table (+1.4), ranking him in the top 1% for the breed outside Japan.
In the 2017 LMCC Sire Performance Study, Kitaguni Jr as Dam Sire places 2nd for IMF (33.03% based on 13 carcass images) and 4th for Marble Fineness (29.66). Additionally, Kitaguni Jr ranks 3rd for IMF (31.71% based on 55 carcass images studied) and ranks 4th for Marble Fineness (30.16%). In that same study, 2403Z ranks 2nd as Sire for REA (14.22”2 based on 38 images studied). Note: Sires and Dam Sires with 5 or less progeny are omitted from the study.
LMR Shichiro 2403Z has an impressive set of maternal BREEDPLAN figures. He is in the top 10% for Birth Weight EBV (-0.4), and in the top third of the breed for marbling traits. As you can see from the carcass image (shown) of a half-sib to 2403Z, LMR Shigeshigetani 8183U produced a 43.15% IMF ribeye, proving again that the influence of Shigeshigetani as a marbling sire.
In addition, 2403Z’s SCD is AA and a Tenderness of 3 – if you are considering a moderate growth, good marbling and easy calving bull, then look no further than what this emerging star can offer.
